Verify Facebook Page without Phone Number or Company Paperwork

Facebook changed their rules again. And as a blogger I was scrambling to verify my facebook page without a phone number I cared about listed on my page or without official documents. And I could feel panic coming over me like a dark cloud that was an elephant about to sit on my chest.

Because I also don’t want to submit paperwork and wait for the page to be verified and as someone who pays grocery bills from sponsored content this was imperative to get done STAT.

A painless and instant way to get your Facebook page verified without company paperwork or a phone number you want listed on your site/page.

So instead of panic, I took a few deep breaths and thought through the situation. First, facebook’s branded content rules mention that it’s for BLUE verified pages. Which is actually celebrities where the gray is for businesses. Fine. But if this is coming for the big leagues, I am sure changes are coming for bloggers and small business owners like myself too. So I am ready! With a great plan.

Seriously, it’s genius I tell you!

So perfect for bloggers and small business owners that want to verify their facebook pages without all the hassle or phone numbers listed on site that could result in unwanted occurrences.

So the things is, you do actually have to have a phone number. BUT, before I lose you, it doesn’t have to be your house, your cell, or even anything that would ring and annoy you.

First step, go set up a google voice number and then list it on your actual site. You might want to clear cache and run the page you listed it on through the afcebook debugger.

I have a great tutorial here on how to set it up as an online voicemail system that doesn’t ring any numbers and operates on its own.

Then after that is all done, you have to go into your facebook page and make sure that you are listed as either a Local Business or a Company/Organization under your general settings tab. Don’t worry, you can still specify what kind and that’s what shows to your fans!

Then go to your about section and add your Google Voice phone number.

Then you need to go to Google Hangouts and make sure that you are logging in under the email address associated with the phone number you’re trying to use. Making sure to click “Ring on incoming calls” under the menu in the top left.

STAY ON THAT SCREEN!

Then pop over to facebook and hit verify page under your general settings for facebook and it will ask for your phone number (you need to have entered it in your about section first) and you enter it here.

Then it will call you. If you have the window open for hangouts, you answer it and they give you a code. Enter it on the FB screen and VIOLA! Done.

EDITOR’S NOTE: some bloggers have not had success with this method and we think that it’s possible that it is because the number was not listed on their actual website (mine was and had been for some time). We are currently testing that theory and will update in a couple of days.

Thank you for this tip. I noticed the page verification area when I was in my settings. The first time I tried it didn’t go through when I just used my cell number. I have had the same google voice number for a while so I put it on my website as the business number and I put it as the number on my Facebook business page. I ran my website through the debugger as you suggested and I requested verification again using the google voice number as the number they should call and it worked!! Thanks again 🙂

[…] Get a “publicly listed phone number” for your page and display it publicly in your contact info on the Facebook page and on your contact page of your website. If you’re uncomfortable putting your home or cell phone number out there, get a business number through Google Voice.  (Note: When you do verify with Facebook, they may want to call you with a verification code. If you’re using a Google Voice number you’ll need to have your Google Hangouts open in a different window at the time you ask them to call you. Instructions by Kara here.) […]
